This summer, I read a book called Heartbeat written by Sharon Creech. Even though it's a small book, the meaning and plot of the story has a very deep meaning. Heartbeat is about enjoying life and teaches you never to regret anything you do because it could all disappear in a 'heartbeat'.
The story stares a young girl called Annie, who throughout the book is faced with sevelar scholar and familiar problems. She finds running her daily mile helps her relax, together with her opposite characteristics friend Max who joins her only to get rid of his own problems.
After the main plot of the story has developed, Annie finds herself in the middle of similar problems she tried to stay away from when her bestfriend Max told her about his.
She finds out her mother is pregnant with the child which her father only choses to pay for monthly. She also finds an unusual bond she hadn't felt before with her grandfather who passed away.
Towards the end of the story Annie finds her daily runs where she would "feel the heartbeat of the world" turning into an excuse of escape. Would she be able to escape dementia in her family and go back to her peaceful runs, or will she loose the heartbeat forever.
